Can we make our own Celebration?

Following the GHV2 topic, I've been tossing and turning with the whole "Celebration" concept. I know there's been a lot said and done about this but why not? I think it's fun and I'm curious to hear you all about this. So, what I've done is the following, while discussing GHV2 i came up with an "Celebration" tracklist, but the more I thought about it, it became more complex. There's no way 18 tracks fitt on a CD in the versions I want them to be, 17 tracks is the max.The main problem is, Madonna has way to much hits for a single album. The way I would have released "Celebration" is a standard set (2CD) and a deluxe set (3CD). No single disc, George Michael did something simmilar with his 25 compilation. The 2CD set was a challange, it must have something from all albums plus some soundtrack singles, there were some hard choices to make. The deluxe set is a better thing, Anyway feel free to discuss, I love that. Here's is my version, of course (almost) chronological.

       Jorick Hello, you're right it's almost impossible to include the successes of 3 decades in a single CD and and two still falls well short collection. Like you I thought the same thing Edition "SUPER DELUXE EDITION" with 3 discs and still be wanting some hit singles. As for durations of CELEBRATION original album, I think sloppy boombox not represent their great eras. So I gave myself the task of editing, in order to create an album with versions agreement in time, not just cut them, if not offer unique versions for this album. I share my Artwork, my tracklist and their durations. This is just my personal opinion, we all have different favorite songs of Madonna, some more successful than others, but after all are successes. I coulden't agree more with you, some real sloppy editing on Celebration. You did a great job with the artwork, keeping the original idea in mind and took it a step further. Well done, it amazes me that fans do a hell of a better job in artwork. There a really some gifted people in and around this forum. I see you took the tracklisting on Celebration also one step further, does the songs flow well??

This compilation should represent all Madonna's sounds (jazz, AC, electropop, classic pop...), the biggest hits and the most important songs. Some songs are excluded like Dress You Up and Beautiful Stranger, because they sound like some other songs on the compilation (LAV, MG, ROL).

THIS would have been a true fan collection. The Standard 2 Disc collection includes her undoubtedly biggest hits + Everybody and Burning Up since they have become iconic over time...The deluxe edition is for collectors and die-hard fans.

So I honestly get where they were coming from on Celebration, and I personally am fine with no chronological order. But where this should have show Madonna's ability reinvent herself on a dime, it came out a mess according to many. It certainly isn't one I listen to in whole as opposed to IC. However, heres my shot at salvaging the concept and expanding it. Its messy as I haven't refined it or decided what mixes to use or if they are in the order I want them (you'll see (lol) when you get to disk 2 and 3) Disk One consists of her strongest dance songs (the majority being her greatest hits). Disk Two is Love oriented (heartbreak into love into desire). Disk Three is more open and vague but follows the two main themes of personal and political. Two or three love songs got mixed in but if placed right I don't think they are too much of eyesores.

*I attempted to leave out any songs that didn't chart US wise. Miles Away I believe is supposed to be here. Celebration followed one year after Hard Candy and I think it was meant as a reminder of it. Sadly I did not include Love Profusion and Get Together which I love, but the love section was already bursting and they weren't necessary for this concept to work. Also to hit home on each category, I capped each disk off with one of three of the new songs. I didn't bother with Broken since all four of the new songs I always carry over to MDNA where they fit snug, so I don't feel bad with it not present here.
