The diva's tour has played to more than 300,000 fans… and counting.

Madonna heads up Billboard’s weekly ranking of concert touring artists, landing at No. 1 on the Hot Tours recap (see list, below) based on $25.4 million in sales reported from her Rebel Heart world tour. This tally includes the final 12 stops on the first leg of the tour that played 20 cities in North America during September and October.

Since the tour launched on Sept. 9, Madonna has performed for more than 300,000 fans at 24 shows, generating box office sales totaling $46 million. The trek through U.S. and Canadian markets wrapped on Oct. 29 in San Diego, but the tour began its second leg just six days later. A seven-week jaunt through 11 European countries began on Nov. 4 in Köln, Germany and will continue until Dec. 20, wrapping for the year in Glasgow, Scotland.

Top box-office stats from the tour so far include a $5.2 million gross from two shows at Madison Square Garden in New York City on Sept. 16-17, the highest-grossing engagement among all of the venues on the schedule. The Garden’s sold ticket count of 28,371 is also the highest attendance recorded. Among the arenas that hosted the tour for just one performance, the MGM Grand Garden in Las Vegas produced the top sales total with $3.5 million on Oct. 24. Brooklyn’s Barclays Center logged the largest crowd among the single-show dates with 14,258 present on Sept. 19.

U2 follows at No. 2 in the Hot Tours ranking with $17.4 million reported from three arenas on the European leg of the band’s Innocence + Experience tour. Following a summer trek through North America that racked up $76.2 million at the box office, the 12-city run through Europe kicked off on Sept. 4 in Turin, Italy. Revenue from the first seven European venues adds $41.6 million to the tour’s overall sales total that currently tops out at $117.8 million. More than one million tickets have been sold at 58 performances on the six-month trek.

Sales from only five venues remain unreported on the 2015 arena tour that wraps at the end of the month in the Irish band’s home city of Dublin. The final engagement will be four performances at 3Arena on Nov. 23-24 and 27-28.

Zedd scores a slot on the Hot Tours roundup at No. 6 with $1.4 million in sales reported this week from 10 events on the Russian-German music producer’s world tour. With concerts set in Asia, North America and Europe from August through November, the tour supports his album True Colors that debuted in May. Since the tour kicked off on Aug. 6, reported grosses total $4.7 million from 115,947 sold tickets at 24 events.

Madonna’s ‘Rebel Heart Tour’ Is Killing It At The Box Office…And The Haters Are Upset

http://www.inquisitr.com/2547081/madonnas-rebel-heart-tour-is-killing-it-at-the-box-office-and-the-haters-are-upset/

Madonna just finished the first leg of her Rebel Heart Tour in the United States and, as expected, she has proven to be the Queen of the Box Office. Billboard has the news.

“Madonna heads up Billboard‘s weekly ranking of concert touring artists, landing at No. 1 on the Hot Tours recap based on $25.4 million in sales reported from her Rebel Heart world tour. This tally includes the final 12 stops on the first leg of the tour that played 20 cities in North America during September and October.â€

They note that with the other dates on the tour that began on Sept. 9 in Montreal, Madonna has made a total of $46 million. It’s quite an accomplishment for a woman nearing 60-years-old — especially one who has been written off by ageist critics as “too old to sing†or “too old to perform.†However, some critics just want Madonna to fail, as evidenced by a recent hit-piece by the New York Post, which calls the tour a failure because it hasn’t earned as much as her previous tour.

“At many of the stops along the 14-concert part of the tour, ticket revenue fell 50 percent below that of 2012’s ‘MDNA’ tour, according to Billboard’s Boxscore data.â€

The New York Post uses data to infer that Madonna’s shows in Toronto (she sold out two of them) and others were failures. What they didn’t point out is that all of the reported shows were completely sold out. So why is Madonna making less money? For one, the tickets are cheaper this time around. While Madonna still charges above $350 for some seats, many others sell at prices below $150. When an artist plays the same area every two years, they have oversaturated the market. Madonna knows this and knew that she had to reduce prices if she wanted to fill seats. It’s not an example of failure, it’s an example of reality.

One can spin statistics to fill an agenda, but one cannot deny facts. Fact: The Rebel Heart Tour holds 12 of the top 17 concert grosses this week. Fact: Madonna performed three completely sold-out shows in New York City, despite the suggestion that her shows there were failing to move tickets. Most important fact: The Rebel Heart Tour has played to almost 350,000 people in 24 sold-out shows. Anybody who wants to argue that this is failing certainly has an agenda.

Besides selling out 24 shows and playing to almost 350,000 people, Madonna’s latest tour — unlike her previous MDNA Tour — has received almost unanimously excellent reviews. The Los Angeles Times said that Madonna successfully proved why she is still relevant after all of these years.

“So, as much as she was celebrating her own importance, Madonna seemed to be looking for ways to demonstrate that she still mattered. What was remarkable was that she succeeded by taking advantage of her experience, not by running from it.â€

“Final four words about Madonna’s ‘Rebel Heart Tour’ stop Saturday night: Concert of the year. It is indeed very good for Madonna to be Queen of Pop,†said reviewer Don Chareunsy.

Mr. Chareunsy was only upset that Madonna didn’t perform any songs from her most acclaimed album Ray of Light, but that her concert is something he will always remember. Fantastic reviews also appear in Us Weekly,VH1The GuardianBillboard, and Rolling Stone. Despite the loud voices of people who seem to feel fulfilled by seeing Madonna fail, the Queen of Pop remains at the top of her game.

From Pollstar:

"The first 7 European shows grossed an average of $1.7M according to Pollstar (that would make it around $12M from 7 dates)The biggest date was obviously the Stockholm one: $3.5M from a 39K attendance!"

Pollstar upload their own tour boxscores like Billboard does, but they only have them available for paid subscribers. Billboard's boxscores will most likely be available for free next Tuesday @ http://www.billboard.com/biz/current-boxscore?mobile_redirection=false

Here are some fun facts for anyone interested in the touring numbers.

Based on the current average of $1,863,562 gross per show, Rebel Heart would finish on $150,948,522 after 81 shows. That's impressive, but approximately half of MDNA's total from 88 shows, making it only M’s 4th highest grossing tour:

1. Sticky & Sweet - $4,800,000 per show/$407,713,266 total

2. MDNA - $3,468,181.82 per show/$305,158,362 total

3. Confessions - $3,245,000 per show/$194,755,447 total

4. Rebel Heart - $1,863,562 per show/$150,948,522 total*

5. Re-Invention - $2,232,142.86 per show/$124,790,787 total

6. Drowned World - $1,634,042.55 per show/$76,792,245 total

*Predication based on current average gross per show

However, if we look at the average ticket price per show, Rebel Heart is actually on par with Re-invention and MDNA, although still much cheaper than Confessions:

1. Confessions - $161 per show

2. Re-Invention - $139 per show

3. MDNA - $138 per show

4. Rebel Heart - $135 per show

5. Sticky & Sweet - $115 per show

6. Drowned World - $104 per show

Now let’s compare average attendance per show:

1. Sticky & Sweet - 41,716 per show

2. MDNA - 25,140 per show

3. Confessions - 20,160 per show

4. Re-Invention - 16,014 per show

5. Drowned World - 15,566 per show

6. Rebel Heart - 13,781 per show

Although Rebel Heart’s average ticket price may be comparative to Re-invention and MDNA, the average attendance per show is actually the lowest of M's last 5 tours, hence the much lower average gross per show, and the comparatively lower gross predicted by tour-end.

It'll be interesting to see how the average ticket price and gross per show may change over the Asian and Oceania legs next year. Obviously these are territories where M has either never played at all, or not played for over 2 decades, which would suggest demand for tickets and (therefore average ticket price) should be much higher, and potentially change the predicted total.

And just for fun, here’s how Rebel Heart compares to other tours this year:

Rebel Heart Tour - Madonna

$57,770,422 gross so far from 31 of 81 shows.

$1,863,562 average gross per show with a predicted $150,948,522 total gross by tour-end.

13,781 average attendance per show.

427,221 total attendance so far.

$135 average ticket price per show.

Prismatic Tour – Katy Perry**

$160,293,758 from 119 shows of 151 shows.

$1,347,006 average gross per show.

12,738 average attendance per show.

1,515,864 total attendance.

$106 average ticket price per show.

**151 shows are listed on Wikipedia, but data has only been provided for 119 dates so far.

Zip Code Tour - Rolling Stones

$109,714,026 gross from 14 shows.

$7,836,716 average gross per show.

44,910 average attendance per show.

628,733 total attendance.

$175 average ticket price per show.

Innocence + Experience Tour - U2

$133,614,475 gross so far from 64 of 76 shows.

$2,087,726 average gross per show with a predicted $158,667,176 total gross by tour-end.

17,588 average attendance per show.

1,125,624 attendance so far.

$118 average ticket price per show.

1989 Tour - Taylor Swift

$217,437,974 gross so far from 73 of 85 shows.

$2,978,602 average gross per show with a predicted $253,191,170 total gross by tour end.

27,152 average attendance per show.

1,982,076 total attendance so far.

$110 average ticket price per show.

On the Road Again - One Direction

$208,008,704 total gross from 80 shows.

$2,600,109 average gross per show.

29,224 average attendance per show.

2,337,938 total attendance.

$89 average ticket price per show.

You've got to hand it to the Stones – with an impressive average ticket price of $175, and average attendance figure of 44,910 per show – Zip Code was a stadium-only North American tour, playing their entirety of the 1971 Sticky Fingers album, raking in $109,714,026 in just 14 dates!

It follows 2014’s 14 on Fire tour which was seen by 862,900 fans across Europe, the Middle East, Asia and Oceania, accumulating $165,194,563 in just 29 dates.

Preceding 14 on Fire, the Stones made $148,869,014 from 30 dates across London/North America on their 2012/13 50 & Counting tour, seen by a further 456,998 fans.

All that adds up to a gross of $423,777,603 accumulated over 4 years, seen by 1,948,631 fans – and next year the Stones take on 13 dates in South America on their América Latina Olé Tour, to add to that total.

Make of all that, what you will!

There are variables that we need to consider for the Rebel Heart Tour

  • [*]Save for Stockholm, RHT is an arena show. [*]All those expensive VIP packages are not reported to Billboard; only the ticket price portions of the packages are reported. [*]
dollar vs. euro Exchange Rate. The stronger dollar lowers the USD numbers from the Europe shows significantly

Madonna leads Billboard’s latest Hot Tours ranking (see list, below) with the newest reported box office sales data from her global trek.

The new Hot Tours tally includes grosses from 14 shows in eight markets during the European leg of the tour (see No. 1, below).

Box office revenue from all eight markets totals $22.6 million from 194,827 sold tickets at 14 performances. One venue, Turin, Italy’s Pala Alpitour, hosted the pop legend for three shows (Nov. 19, 21-22). Arenas in four cities, Barcelona, London, Amsterdam, and Paris, brought in the tour for two nights.

Overall sales from the Rebel Heart Tour now total $80 million from 45 concerts during the first two legs of the tour, through Dec. 10.

622,048 fans have seen the tour since the opening jaunt through North America that ran from Sept. 9 until Oct. 29. The run through Europe followed, kicking off on Nov. 4 in Germany.

Billboard has received sales data from Europe through the two nights in Paris on Dec. 9 and 10. Revenue from shows in Zurich and three U.K. markets, Manchester, Birmingham and Glasgow, have yet to be reported from the fall leg.

The Rebel Heart Tour’s European leg wrapped on Dec. 20 in Glasgow. The tour will restart in North America on Jan. 6 in Mexico City for a pair of shows, before swinging back to the U.S. for eight performances. Following that, Madonna will play Puerto Rico, a series of Asian countries, first-ever shows in New Zealand, and her first tour of Australia in over 20 years. The tour is scheduled to close on March 20, 2016 in Sydney.

Madonna's previous tour, the 88-show MDNA Tour, raked in $305 million in 2012.

U2 takes the No. 2 slot on the Hot Tours ranking with $18.6 million in box office sales reported from the final four cities on the band’s Innocence + Experience tour that wrapped on Dec. 7 in Paris.

Two-show stints in Glasgow and Belfast and a four-show run in Dublin are included in these counts as well as a four-show engagement at AccorHotels Arena in Paris. The first two shows in Paris occurred on Nov. 10 and 11, and because of terrorist attacks in the city, the remaining two concerts were rescheduled for Dec. 6 and 7.

The Innocence + Experience tour began in North America on May 14 and continued through July 31, wrapping with an eight-show run at New York City’s Madison Square Garden. The final leg of the tour was set in Europe and began in Italy on Sept. 4. The tour played 12 cities on the continent before the Dec. 7 closer in France.  Overall ticket sales from the tour topped $152 million from 1,286,416 sold tickets at 76 performances.

37/50 cities/shows. That doesn't make sense. The 2015 North American leg was 24 show and the Europe/U.K. leg was 25 shows. Pollstar must've made a slight error.

With approx. $1.8m average gross per show, the tour should gross at least $150m with the remaining 33 shows figures.

Note: ticket prices might be higher on average for her Asia and Oceania dates .

Recent Chinese press reports she received $6m from the local sponsors -banks, phone companies etc - just for the 2 Taiwan shows.

Note: RHT tour is very VIP heavy and all the VIP packages do not count towards the boxscores - only the ticket price portion of the packages are reflected in the boxscores.
