I wouldn't consider it a ballad. It's more like Like A Prayer. Even though their subject matter is consistent with a ballad, they are structured like it, sound wise.

Well I agree but than I have to ask, what about Devil wouldnt recognise you, I was just watching S&S tour and it is presented kind of like a ballad,a dark one, what do you think?

Devil is definitely a ballad(Its my favourite moment from the s&S tour - especially when she emerges from the "tube") Devil Pray i would say is not a ballad as its not even a love song ? ballads are generally sad or love songs ?

Maybe morelike a Midtempo ballad... much in the vein of "Borderline" and I guess "Like a Prayer" even though the latter wasn't necessarily considered such.

the idea of this thread came from listening to something to remember with a casual madonna fan friend of mine and he was talking about how he loved her "slow" songs more than recent dance numbers. Than I started to wonder really what "slow" madonna song means or if a slow song equals ballad. Example, my friend mentioned Forbidden Love from Confessions as a ballad and I recalled when the album came out, people were talking about it and said it had no slow songs, only dance numbers that blend into each other, but surely forbidden love can be called a ballad?
