MADONNA’S FIRST ALBUM GETS BPI’S SILVER CERTIFICATION

The famous Platinum, Gold and Silver certifications awarded by the BPI in recognition of sales milestones will include audio streaming data from this week.
The first albums to benefit from the incorporation of streaming include Madonna’s 1983 eponymous debut, which today is awarded Silver for combined sales of over 60,000, Placebo’s Once More With Feelings (Platinum, sales over 300,000) and Bombay Bicycle Club’s So Long, See You Tomorrow (Gold, sales over 100,000).
Singles certifications in the UK have included streaming plays since July 2014. Both adopt the same approach and criteria that the Official Charts are use to calculate how streams contribute to an single or album’s sales performance.

The Official UK Albums Chart Update 22nd October 2014: #22 #TrueBlue

http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio1/chart/updatealbums

True Blue is #1 in Google Play Top Albums Charts UK!

Posted Image

28 years after it hit the top spot, @Madonna’s True Blue re-enters the chart at No.21 this week:

I didn't know this. I know it was a while ago now, but was there any reason for a surge in sales of True Blue in 2014, as opposed to her other albums?

20 albums turning 20 in 2018

1998's finest are about to hit that special anniversary.

Madonna – Ray Of Light

Madonna returned after a few years away from pop as a new mum with a fresh techno sound thanks to UK producer William Orbit and lots of lovely long blond hair, thanks to nature and her hair stylist. We spoke to Orbit about the classic album here. http://www.officialcharts.com/chart-news/william-orbit-reflects-on-madonna-s-ray-of-light-it-broke-all-the-rules-__8622/

Blockbuster soundtracks that conquered the Official UK Albums Chart A chart-topping soundtrack is rarely seen in the UK these days - we look at the ones who managed it (or came close).

Evita - Madonna (1996)

Helmed by Andrew Lloyd Webber and Alan Parker, Evita and its music was a big change both visually and vocally for its leading lady Madonna.

The collection reached Number 1 in the UK 13 weeks after its release and earned Madonna another three Top 10 singles: You Must Love Me, Another Suitcase in Another Hall and, of course, Don’t Cry For Me Argentina. At the time of writing the soundtrack has sold 733,000.

Nice article and comments from Orbit - its a shame he didn't spend more time with her on MDNA (That album could have been so much better - i love falling free and some girls - you dont get any more eclectic there ! )- i know he moaned at the time that she was balancing a lot of projects at the time- to me he is her best collaborator from the last 20 years - before that i would say Pat Leonard - as for ROL being her best album im not sure - its defo in my top 5 though and drowned world is a sublime song both lyrically and sonically(As is Falling Free) i really hope she works with him again in the future - im sure he would be up for it ! :)) Thanks William xx

The female solo artists with the most Number 1 albums

http://www.officialcharts.com/chart-news/the-female-solo-artists-with-the-most-number-1-albums__16217/

Madonna

The Queen of Pop is of course on top of our list, with a staggering 12 chart topping albums to her name. Her dozen of Number 1 smashes are: Like A Virgin, True Blue, Like A Prayer, The Immaculate Collection, Evita - OST, Ray of Light, Music, American Life, Confessions on a Dancefloor, Hard Candy, Celebration and MDNA. *deep breath*

Madonna is the only woman in double figures, joining an elite club that only includes The Beatles, Elvis Presley, Robbie Williams, The Rolling Stones, David Bowie, Michael Jackson, Bruce Springsteen and U2. Look back at Madonna's full UK chart history, including 63 UK Top 10 singles.
