So, FINALLY here we are.  It's been a couple of months getting here, and I appreciate all of my vote-aholics who have stuck with me this whole time.  Lots of love and kisses to you  :kissy:  :kissy:  :kissy: .  Below, you will find all of the songs that made the Top 10 in the first four Countdowns, along the path to HERE.  There are a total of 44 songs (as you know, even in the Top 10 there were ties).

There are some differences here at the final curtain.  For one, there will be NO ties.  Secondly, this will not be a top 30 but a Top 40.  (In other words, only four songs will not make the cut.)  Finally, there will be no game, there will be no movement of the songs (unless we have a tie, to be explained in a minute).  You will NOT be able to save a favorite that did not make the cut with the other -aholics.  (I know, I'm sad  :suffer:  about it too, but ultimately I want to be fair.)  Starting March 26, we will go straight through and list five songs every night, no questions no answers, meaning votes are due by March 24.

Now, with that being said, again there will be no ties.  IF, when I add and divide up the final tallies, there happens to be some songs that tie, then there will be trivia questions.  These questions will happen before the Countdown starts, so you will know beforehand that we have "things to work out".  Whoever answers the question correctly first will get to choose between the songs that happen to have the same score.

Now, jump to the next message and you will see the great songs that are up for debate.  Anybody is welcome to join in on this voting; in fact, the more the more accurate the score!  You are used to just putting your top 30 songs into my Inbox, BUT this time put all 44 songs IN ORDER (44 being the worst, 1 being of course the best).

Okay, it is now time to break apart the ties-or the triplets-the songs that are too close to each other.  There are 6 ties total.  Note that you may answer only the songs that you care about, or you may answer all of the questions, your call.  But DO leave your answers in my INBOX by Sunday morning 11 am EST.  Also note that if you should answer the questions for the triplets, then tell me the exact order that you would like the songs.  Whoever has the correct answers first will get to choose (not necessarily the most correct answers, since you may choose to not answer some of the questions).

1.  For Express Yourself/Impressive Instant/Vogue:  When given the opportunity to choose her Catholic confirmation name, what name did Madonna choose?

2.  For Angel/Drowned World (Substitute For Love):  What was the name of the movie that Madonna STARRED in in 1985?

3.  For 4 Minutes/I Don't Give A:  Approximately, how many records has Madonna sold world-wide?

4.  For Cyberraga/Isaac/Jump:  What was the name of the high school that Madonna attended?

5.  For Causing A Commotion/Secret:  What month and year was 'The Immaculate Collection', her first greatest hits compilation, released?

6.  For Burning Up/Like A Virgin:  On what exact day was Lourdes Maria born?

FIRST, an interesting fact:  out of the four songs that hit the top spot in the Countdowns that brought us here, only "Devil Wouldn't Recognize You" didn't make the top ten.  Sad, because I am such a fan of this song.

ALSO, these are the four songs that are not going to be in the Top 40....wait, that would give it away.  I guess then that you are just going to have to wait.  Yes, yes, I AM such a tease.

NOW, let's get started...

Looking at this list I am deeply disappointed and impressed at the same time. I find it interesting. It wouldn't be my ultimate list though. I will say there are no songs on the list I dislike though.

I can not believe that some songs didn't make it over others (just a few) but I am impressed that people found something wonderful in those songs.

I quite agree with you, LikeAMelody, this Countdown has been both shocking and interesting.  For example, who knew that "Like A Prayer" was going to land as low as it did?  Of course, with my votes being mixed in with everyone else's (and I hate the song), it kind of makes sense.  Still, I love you for sticking this long with me and keeping interest.  I just hope that everybody else comments as well their own personal thoughts.  I love to hear what my fellow Madonna-phites are thinking.

By now it should be obvious which four songs did not land in the top 10; after all, how could these songs be in the Top Ten?  (Seriously!!)  So, I will stop being a tease and just tell you.  They are:  Forbidden Love, Love Profusion, Where Life Begins, and Celebration (yes, Celebration was last, in that order).

With the Top Ten, we are going to do something a little different.  I will post each song one-by-one (every couple of hours, I don't want you to kick my butt for being that much of a floozy), listing pertinent information about each track as we go along.  So, here goes:

10.

from 'Like A Virgin'

"Other faces seem like nothing next to you..."

Released on April 10, 1985, this was the third single from the album 'Like A Virgin'.  Co-written with Steve Bray, it was one of the first songs developed for the album.  The single became her fifth consecutive top 5 single on the US Billboard Hot 100, also reaching the top of the Dance charts.  Madonna has only performed the song once live at 'The Virgin Tour'.  The single included another hot track "Into The Groove", which sadly overshadowed the appeal of this great song.  Initially planning to release a video to coincide with this single, Madonna instead went with a compilation of snippets from other videos including 'Burning Up' and 'Lucky Star'.

09.

from 'Ray Of Light'

"I've changed my mind..."

With additional songwriters, this song was written and produced by both Madonna and William Orbit.  It includes a sample of a song titled "Why I Follow the Tigers".  This track is considered to follow Madonna's spiritual transformation to seek authentic love over superficiality.  It was released everywhere, except the United States, on August 24, 1998, as 'Ray Of Light's third single.  It was received positively from music critics.  An accompanying music video, featuring Madonna running away from paparazzi, was released for the song.  The video itself received heat due to its likeness of Princess Diana's death.  The singer has performed this song several times lives, including at both the 'Drowned World Tour' and the 'Confessions Tour'.

08.

from 'Erotica'

"When your lips are burning mine..."

From her fifth studio album 'Erotica', this song was released on July 6, 1993 by Maverick Records.  Internationally, this was the fifth single from the album, but it was only fourth in the United States.  Written and produced by Madonna and Shep Pettibone, the song had a hint of new-age music.  It peaked at number 14 on the US Billboard Hot 100, while becoming a top 10 hit in other countries such as Australia, Canada, and Japan.  The video itself, originally shot in black and white, was later colored with blue tones.  She has performed the song once at 'The Girlie Show'; it has also appeared as a video interlude on the 'Sticky & Sweet Tour'.

07.

from 'I'm Breathless'

"Something better than you are today..."

Released as the first single from 'I'm Breathless', Sire Records released this track on March 27, 1990.  Inspired by different dancers such as Jose Gutierez Xtravaganza and Luis Xtravaganza, who helped originate this dance form, she wrote this track as an upbeat dance song and included it on both of her greatest hits albums.  This song includes a spoken section, in which she name-checks different golden-era Hollywood celebrities.  Topping the charts in over 30 countries, this song remains as one of Madonna's biggest international hits.  It was the world's best-selling single of 1990.  The accompanying video was shot by David Fincher in black-and-white and features many choreographed moves of this dance form.  She has performed this song live many times, including on six of her tours.

from 'Music'

"Comets shoot across the sky..."
Originally intended to be the fourth single from 'Music', plans were cancelled when a disagreement arose between Madonna and her recording company.  Eventually, it was released in the United States on September 18, 2001.  Co-written and co-produced with Mirwais Ahmadzai, he created most of the sound elements on his laptop.  Many reviewers considered this track a highlight of the album and praised Ahmadzai's production of the track.  For two consecutive weeks it was at the top of the Billboard Hot Dance Music/Club Play chart.  In fact, it was Madonna's 27th consecutive number one on this chart.  It was performed live at the 'Drowned World Tour'.

No, #1 is not quite as obvious as "Vogue", though it still might be expected.  #1 is a great song, after all!

from 'Like A Prayer'

"Then you'll know your love is real..."

This song was released as the second single from the 'Like A Prayer' album on May 9, 1989.  It was the first song that she collaborated with Stephen Bray for 'Like A Prayer'.  A tribute to American funk and soul band Sly and The Family Stone, the main idea behind the song is female empowerment.  "Do not go for second best and always express your inner feelings" is the advice of the song.  Although it only peaked at number two on the Billboard Hot 100 in the United States, it did become her sixth number 1 hit on the European Hot 100 Singles chart.  The music video for the single was inspired by the classic film 'Metropolis' (1927).  It was the most expensive video ever made up til then.  The track has been performed on four of her world tours.

from 'Something To Remember'

"Now that I'm standing on my own..."

Released on March 15, 1994, this was a soundtrack single from 'With Honors'.  After receiving much heated press and negative feedback over the 'Erotica' period, some considered this as a refreshing transition.  Warner Bros. suggested this track to Madonna after noticing that most of her soundtrack singles were hits.  It was nominated for several awards, including Best Original Song at the 52nd Golden Globe Awards.  The music video included an androgynous portrayal of Madonna smoking in the last shot.  Sadly, this tune has never been featured in any of her tours.

from 'Like A Virgin'

"Music can be such a revelation..."

From the 1985 film 'Desperately Seeking Susan', this track also featured on the re-issue of her second studio album 'Like A Virgin' outside of North America.  Released on July 23, 1985, it was the album's fourth single.  A remixed version, titled "Into The Hollywood Groove", was made for a Gap commercial and featured rap artist Missy Elliott.  The lyrics are written as an invitation to dance with the singer.  Many have called it "Madonna's first great single".  It reached the top of the charts in many countries, including:  Australia, Ireland and Italy.  In the United Kingdom, it was her first number one single.  It was ineligible to chart on the US's Billboard Hot 100 chart since it was only included as the B-side to "Angel".  However, it was honored by 'Billboard' magazine at the end of the 1980's, being dubbed the Dance Single of the Decade.  The music video consists of clips from the movie.  The song has been included in most of her tours.

from 'American Life'

"But it's a setup until you're fed up..."

Released in the United States as a promotional single on October 15, 2003, it also appeared in the remix compilation 'Remixed & Revisited'.  In the song, Madonna denounces both TV and magazines as a "social disease".  Several remixed versions were released, with one of them making it to number four on the Hot Dance Club Play chart.  She performed the song at 2004's 'Re-Invention Tour'.  It was also used as a video interlude during the 'MDNA Tour', causing the singer to get sued by Marine Le Pen.  Musical critics loved the track, even going so far as to call it "infectious" and "the best song of the album".
